Dear Friends and Supporters of Everybody Wins Minnesota,
For the last 20 years EWM has positively impacted the lives of those they have served. Children were met every week by a caring and dedicated mentor who brought to life the characters in the books they read aloud. Mentors boarded buses at their work to give their time and talent. Principals and teachers opened their schools to thousands of reading mentors. Business partners supported tens of thousands of volunteer hours given by their employees. EWM has meant so much to so many.
On May 24, the EWM Board of Directors was faced with a difficult and gut wrenching decision regarding the future of EWM. With the reoccurring challenges of securing sustainable funding, the resignation of our volunteer Executive Director and future leadership gaps, it became clear that our story was coming to an end. The courageous conversation which was bravely embraced by each board member ended with a unanimous vote to charge the Executive Committee with formalizing an exit strategy for EWM. The Board’s decision to end with grace, integrity and on a positive note means the 2015-2016 program year, was our last.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported our mission over the last 20 years. We all have much to be proud of.
It has been my honor and privilege to have held positions as the Board Chair, volunteer Executive Director and one of the U.S. Bank Work Site Coordinators over the last 13 years. The final chapter of our story is so bittersweet. Our memories and game changing experiences, one child, one mentor, one book at a time is our legacy.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Volunteer Executive Director
